K∆IGERH∆RDT

Experimental fashion by Kai Gerhardt

K∆IGERH∆RDT is a Berlin-based label that treats clothing as a medium for contradiction, freedom, and human complexity. The work resists categorization and focuses instead on garments that remain open, tactile, and emotionally direct.

K∆IGERH∆RDT look in black and white

Kai Gerhardt works primarily in black and white, using visual reduction to open up nuance and contrast. Classic tailoring and free draping meet textile experiments, sculptural silhouettes, and a careful relationship to materials.

Many pieces emerge from reclaimed sources such as cotton, wool, sewing waste, event-industry fabrics, and even VHS tape. The result is clothing that is deliberate, deeply crafted, and never driven by trend cycles.

Gerhardt studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and developed a clear design language through projects like put your lights on, black and white are not grey, and LET THE FUTURE BE HUMAN. His collections are produced slowly, either by the designer himself or within Europe, with care and proximity in mind.

Beyond the studio, he mentors younger designers and treats fashion as a space of responsibility as much as expression. The label has been recognized by publications such as Its, ODDA, and KALTBLUT, and by awards including the European Fashion Award FASH and a German Design Award nomination.

Slow, tactile, uncompromising

K∆IGERH∆RDT brings a rigorous and human-centered approach to fashion at RARE: process-driven, materially curious, and quietly radical. The label expands the collective toward experimental textile practice and a broader conversation around identity, freedom, and wearability.
